June 11, 2006 - Horses can provide much needed therapy to people with disabilities. A riding program in Lake County started five years ago with just 20 riders and now serves over 160 children and adults.
Each rider at the Equestrian Connection benefits in different ways from the horses. The program helps people with disabilities take control of their lives.
His voice quaking with emotion, TV talk show host Montel Williams offered this self-introduction: “I want you to meet someone who’s not a drug dealer, not a dope addict, just somebody who’s trying to get up every morning and go to work.”
Williams went on to explain how marijuana eases the symptoms of his multiple sclerosis enough to let him function. Registered with programs in California and Canada that permit possession of small amounts of marijuana for medical use, he urged New Jersey to adopt one of its own.
While it is true that there is no cure for M.S. yet, there are now FDA-approved medications that have been shown to modify or slow down the underlying course of M.S. In addition, many therapeutic and technological advances are helping people manage symptoms and lead productive lives ... More ..
